The Farming Year Europe: Farm Machinery through the Seasons, Part 1 Spring
Presented by Stephen Richmond, this is the first in a series of programmes showing farm machinery at work through the seasons in Europe with action from Germany, Belgium, France and Holland, Part One focuses on the busy spring period from the beginning of March to the end of May.

With cultivation work in full swing together with the planting of a whole variety of crops including barley, oats, sugar beet, potatoes, flower bulbs, maize, carrots, lettuce and chives, the programme also features spraying, fertilising and hoeing as the crops start to grow.

Other highlights include spinach harvesting and the beginning of the first cut silage harvest plus some very large slurry spreading and application machinery. From the latest sophisticated machinery to classic tractors and implements of the 1970s and 80s still at work, this is a unique record of agriculture in Europe in the 21st century.

A whole host of tractors are shown at work including John Deere, Claas, New Holland, Fendt, Eicher, Deutz Fahr, Steyr, Case IH, Challenger and Renault as well as self-propelled machines from Claas, John Deere, Ploeger, Krone, Verveat and Challenger.

Filmed by cameraman and farm machinery enthusiast Sascha Jussen especially for this series of programmes, The Farming Year will transport you into a familiar but also surprising world where modern tractors mingle with as-new classics and where roof mounted bulb planters, toolcarriers and tricycle tractor conversions make this pr...

The Farming Year Europe Part 2 Summer
The Farming Year will transport you
into a familiar but also surprising
world where modern tractors mingle with
as-new classics. Part Two focuses on
the summer months.

With the arrival of the busy summer
season cameraman Sascha Jussen is back
out in the fields of Europe capturing
silage harvesting, the pea and bean
harvest and of course the all important
cereal harvest itself. With many
familiar and less familiar tractors and
machinery caught in action, this
programme builds on part 1 to show just
what farming is like through the
seasons in continental Europe in the
21st Century.

Both older classic machinery rubs
shoulders with the latest new equipment
in various countries including Germany,
France, Belgium and Holland. Highlights
include the biggest sprayer yet from
Agrifac and four big John Deere
combines harvesting wheat in one
enormous field! That and much, much
more makes this programme a must for
any fans of farm machinery.

The Farming Year Europe Farm Machinery through the Seasons Part 3 Autumn
We have now reached the autumn in our
trip through a farming year in the
heart of Europe. With ploughing,
cultivating and the sowing of the
following years cereal crops plus the
harvesting of many others such as sugar
beet, potatoes and maize this is a
very, very busy time of the year
indeed.

As with the other programmes in this
series cameraman and journalist Sascha
Jussen has found an amazing and very
varied selection of tractors and farm
machinery to the screen with some very
familiar equipment to British eyes and
some not quite so.

Highlights include twelve row sugar
beet harvesters, monster forage
harvesters and huge potato lifters.
Once again it is a fascinating and
action packed ride!

The Farming Year Europe: Farm Machinery through the Seasons, Part 4 Winter
The final season of our trip through
the farming year in Europe comes to an
end as Sascha Jussen films through the
winter of 2015/2016. With lots of
classic and modern tractors at work,
the emphasis turns to planting next
years crops as well as harvesting the
vegetable crops such as cabbages and
brussel sprouts, both by hand and
machine. A true highlight of this
programme is the look inside the
reception area of a sugar beet factory
in Germany, with some real surprises!
As the weather turns from mild to very
cold a lot of farmers are spreading
manure on the fields and then ploughing
reading for spring sown crops and there
is also a lot of green manure chopping
featured plus a look at work on a fruit
farm and also a few dairy holdings.
Bringing the year to a close, this
programme is a fitting end to an epic
year of farm machinery watching in
Europe and also wraps with a look at
what the series has shown us machinery
and farming techniques wise.

A Farming Case Study Part 2
A Farming Case Study is a detailed two-
part documentary series following a year
with David Black & Son Ltd, a large
arable and pig rearing enterprise from
Suffolk. The main focus is on the
1300ha (3200 acre) arable operation, but
the programmes also touch on the pigs
and use archive images to illustrate
some of the farm’s fascinating history.

It’s mostly heavy land on the farm, so
combinable crops including wheat, barley
and oilseed rape are the order of the
day. But sugar beet is also an
extremely important crop, with an
extensive area grown.
The majority of machinery used is from
the Case IH stable, but a variety of
other makes are shown and over 40
machines are featured in total over the
course of the two programmes.
The series should appeal equally to farm
machinery enthusiasts and framing
professionals, with something for every
level of interest.

Part two begins half way through harvest
in early August and goes on to deal with
cultivations, drilling, autumn crop
protection and sugar beet harvesting.

Farming the Land in the Autumn Time Volume 2
While visiting Australia to film the
2013/14 wheat Harvest at Miralwyn, we
met up with a team of workers from
Miralwyn cotton.

They were getting ready to cut 10,000
hectares between Walgett and
Brewarrina. Under farm manager John
Ellis, they had a fine team in place
with some of the latest modern
machinery, which included six big Claas
combines, three chaser bins and the big
mother bins that sit along the
headlands to store the wheat until the
first of twenty-two lorries came to
take away the loads of wheat to all the
different stores that are many miles
and hours away.

When we went back over to Ireland on
Saturday 23 July, it was all go. When
we reached the North side of Dublin on
a farm between Swords and Ashbourne, we
met up with Michael Hoey and his family
and some of the workers from their farm
at Country Crest. They had two big,
state of the art, New Holland combines
on tracks as well as an old combine
from Armstrong Machinery, the local New
Holland dealer in North Dublin, which
was being used for filming, by the “Ear
to the Ground” team led by Darragh
McCullough. They were interviewing
Ireland’s top comedian, Brendan Grace,
about the re-release of his combine
harvester song that was such a massive
hit for him all those years back. And
with this all going on Michael’s wife
Geraldine and daughters Emma, Grace and

A Year with Flawborough Part 1
MODERN AGRICULTURE AS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN
IT BEFORE…
A Year with Flawborough is like no
other
agricultural video you’ve ever seen.
Using the very latest drone and ground-
level video technology, Farming
Photography, the UK’s leading
agricultural photography company, has
created a new generation of farming DVD
that provides unique angles onthe
machinery used to tackle the seasonal
challenges facing a modern arable
farming business.

Covering every operation of the
Hawthorne family’s 5000-acre Notts-
based
Flawborough Farms, part one of A Year
with Flawborough charts the flurry of
farm activity that begins with the
arrival of spring, and covers the
period
through until cereal harvest begins.
Topics explored include the need to
make
the most of short weather windows to
get
crops drilled, sprayed and fertilised
in
ideal conditions, with Flawborough
continually trialling advanced new
technology, such as Fendt’s 500hp 1050,
the world’s largest conventional
tractor, and using a controlled traffic
farming system to protect the soil.
But this isn’t just a film about
advanced farming – it’s also about the
team behind the business, and the hard
work, dedication and skill that remain
such an essential part of modern
machinery operation. Nor is this a
video
about machinery for its own sake – also
explored is Flawborough’s investment in
the very latest crop protection and
nutrient application technol...

Serious Grass Part 1
Tractor Barn
The first in this very exciting new
series of three DVD programmes sees us
follow a Ford 8630 we have known since
new, from an arable farm in Suffolk to
a dairy farm in Lancashire. This series
is the story of the superb classic
tractors and machinery we found there.
Andrew Atkinson has a true passion for
Ford Series 10 and 30 tractors and is
not afraid to put their power to good
use on the farm - especially at silo
time! With a huge fleet of Super Q
Force II and Generation III tractors,
including two Silver Jubilee 7810
machines, plus four Series 30
primemovers and two classic John Deere
6010 Series machines, Andrew uses all
these tractors to run his dairy farm.
In this instalment we visit for the
first time at first cut silage and are
treated to the sight and sound of two
trailed forage harvesters at work, a
large Claas Jaguar 71 making a Ford
8830 sing out under full load and make
beautiful music!
Second cut is just as magical with two
choppers working into the night into
the early hours, but we see much more
than that as we find out through
archive still photography what Andrew's
farm used to be like from the 1950s to
the present day, as well as what
tractors he used to own and run along
with his father.
We also return in the spring to see
lots of other grassland work including
rolling, applying slag and 'till-
sowing' as well as a contractor
injecting slurry with an umbilical
system and New Hollan...
